    Hi Nancy,
Here in Edmonton we are using Mepilex Border. Patients are taking it off at home one week after surgery. There have been some application issues (mostly a learning issue) but over all it's working very well!

In Halifax our ortho inpatient units are using Mepilex Post-op Surgical dressings.

One site in Calgary, we are using everything from gauze (8x4) with TED stocking holding it to Aquacel (jubilee) dressing to be removed one week post op at home by patient. We use Primapore dressing that is changed before discharge PRN. All of them according to (5 surgeons) Doctors' preference and their own protocols for knees. All work, no more or less incidence of infections or complications. Same with hips, mostly Primapore; one surgeon has gauze with Mepilex tape, that is removed 2nd day post op and the large paper tape stays on to go home.

At another site in Calgary we are using Honey comb dressings for most of our total knee and total hip arthroplasty patients. The incision is visible and so is potential drainage. The patient takes it off at home one week post-op by themselves.
